One of the things I love about farmer's markets is that produce is "naked", that is, not wrapped within an inch of it's life in plastic, or sitting in a plastic box. I use homemade string produce bags to put the produce in. They are lightweight so as not to add to the weight of the produce and see-though to help identify the item during the check out process.
I am now buying bread at a local bakery - taking a cotton dishtowel with me to wrap the bread in instead of plastic. I did get some funny looks at first, but I think they're used to me now. I store my unwrapped bread in a breadbox, the way my mother used to do. It keeps the bread nice and fresh - no more sweaty bread.
