Married x 7 years... I became interested in supporting local foods while reading Animal Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. I also have a best friend who is a big supporter and who has introduced me to many local foods resources and has taught me that it can be done...anywhere. My husband and I have always been interested in becoming more self-sufficient one day.
Favorite Foods:
Any fresh vegetables, except mushrooms! I don't really branch out with meats more than chicken, fish/shellfish, beef, and pork - but I love them all. Some favorite dishes: butternut squash, pumpkin cheesecake, tomato sandwhiches all summer long and many more...
Favorite Music:
Many, many artists - but here are a few: Langhorne Slim, Paleface, The Avett Brothers, The Heathens (Matt Butcher), Ryan Adams, The Everybodyfields, Jeremy Enigk, The Lemonheads, Evan Dando etc etc....
What would you like to see Slow Food Charlotte do?
I would like to learn more about local foods and other self-sustaining organic methods of making the land work for us and learning how to work the land... (composting, raw milk, heirloom vegetables etc)...since I have a whole lot to learn! I would also love to hear about local conventions/talks regarding these subjects.

Sarah, my wife and I pick up raw milk every two weeks. Go to the following website and register if you're interested. http://rawmilk.jallen7usa.com. You can also order beef, pork and eggs.
Sincerely,
Jay Jackson

Thanks for the warm welcome, Sarah! Nope, no composting just yet. I've tried to sit down and read the Rodale Book of composting, but it's just not as entertaining as say, Animal Vegetable Miracle. Or Omnivore's Delimma. Or Eat, Pray, Love for that matter. Good luck to ya though.
