Hi Everyone,
It is so cool to see some activity in this group. Rich, your offer is very generous. Matt, great to hear from you. I have never made Kefir. I don't have any extra milk this time of year. Can you freeze the Kefir grains? A loaf of bread sounds heavenly if you have enough. Reed and Kelli, the mushrooms sound good, I would try some.
I guess the other difficult thing about bartering is finding a time when everyone can get together. Rich said he could come to my place. Does that work for everyone else? The best time for me is after the farmers market on Saturday around 3pm.

Michelle and Matt:

So the most difficult part of bartering food will be determining value. I'll just jump right in and make a value offer:
2 quart jars of mushroom/chicken stock for one loaf of bread
1 pint jar of pesto for one package of goat cheese.

This is just off the top of my head. Don't hesitate to correct me if I'm way off--you won't hurt my feelings!

My garden is through for the winter .though ma-by i can get some time to plant
some winter greens. right now if any one would like some hen of woods;
think winter stews and soups that cook all day. They are very dirty
but have a great flavor. I can give them to any one interested no exchange necessary.
I have to many to store right now. My freezer is to full to be going into hunting season.
I can give them to any one who wants them; I am going to be getting about 50 to 60 more pounds before the month is out.

We have raw Kefir to trade if anyone is interested. Think yogurt, just with a little fizz. We also have extra kefir grains sometimes.
Rich, I'd love to trade for some mushroom stock. Since you already have kefir grains, I could offer you a loaf of bread. We want to bake again in the near future. And Michele, we are definitely interested in goat cheese. I know that kefir grains make great goat milk kefir, too :-)

Rich, that sounds awesome! I would love to try the pesto. But you will have to decide on a $ value for your pesto. Can you come out to the farm on Saturday or Sunday around 3pm?

We'd talked about picking up trades at the Tailgate Market. We also did some trades at one of the potlucks, but only two of us brought things. I got some splenderific pretzels for my Zoogh. Anyway, I still have frozen cubes of Zoogh (think pesto only with many more spices and hot peppers instead of basil) if anyone is interested. I'll be shopping at the Tailgate tomorrow.

Hey! I didn't know you guys had this group. I need to peruse around the site more often. I got the pressure cooker out this weekend and canned a few quarts of chicken stock, which puts me at quite an excess. And I thought, "there should be a group......."

So my first offer is:
Quarts of really yummy organic chicken and mushroom stock, or, smaller jars of pesto Denise just brought home a bunch more basil, and we grew a whole bunch of garlic this year, so I see pesto in my immediate future. We are improving our technique with every batch......
