On the school garden front, I think just about any school would welcome you as a volunteer to assist in their gardens. There are a list that work with Friendship Gardens (a Slow Food collaboration with Friendship Trays, Charlotte's Meals-on-Wheels program), but there are dozens of school gardens throughout the city, so if we don't find a match for you there, we might be able to find you a place in your neighborhood.  For jobs, you might look into getting on one of the many listservs related to food systems and food policy.  I see environmental ed posted with some regularity. send me a note at kathy@slowfoodcharlotte.org if you are interested in following up.

Hi All! I'm so excited to find a group that focuses on food and schools. I just wanted to say hello. I am very new to Charlotte and wanted to reach out to make connections (friends who have similar beliefs), get advice about great organizations to volunteer with, and, since we moved here for my husbands job, I am now looking for work - Environmental Ed is my field.

Okay, is it me or is anyone else shocked by this? I remember making homemade bread for my class (elementary) over 20 years ago and when I asked "Where does bread come from?" 100% said the grocery store. They were in the 3rd grade...20 years ago! I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this, but what wonders never cease.

There is Federal Grant Money Available to Create Farmers Markets and groups that are eligible agricultural cooperatives, producer networks and associations, local government entities, nonprofit corporations, public benefit corporations, economic development corporations, regional farmers market authorities and tribal governments. Hey folks, we'll be planting some seeds with the summer reading program tomorrow (Wednesday, July 2) at 10:00 am. If any of you would like to come help, you're welcome. The kids tend to need at least a minute or two of one on one for these planting activities, so we could use some extra hands.
