Congratulations to Shamrock Elementary School for being selected as a recipient of a pizza garden by Fuel Pizza!
Welcome to Charlotte, Cynthia!
On the school garden front, I think just about any school would welcome you as a volunteer to assist in their gardens. There are a list that work with Friendship Gardens (a Slow Food collaboration with Friendship Trays, Charlotte's Meals-on-Wheels program), but there are dozens of school gardens throughout the city, so if we don't find a match for you there, we might be able to find you a place in your neighborhood. For jobs, you might look into getting on one of the many listservs related to food systems and food policy. I see environmental ed posted with some regularity. send me a note at kathy@slowfoodcharlotte.org if you are interested in following up.
Comment by Cynthia Benes on January 23, 2012 at 1:48pm Hi All! I'm so excited to find a group that focuses on food and schools. I just wanted to say hello. I am very new to Charlotte and wanted to reach out to make connections (friends who have similar beliefs), get advice about great organizations to volunteer with, and, since we moved here for my husbands job, I am now looking for work - Environmental Ed is my field.
Thank you.
