Big fun for the kids attending the Shamrock Summer Camp this morning. Thanks to the generosity of the folks at Fuel Pizza, our kids got to make whole wheat crust pizzas using some of the vegetables and herbs that they have been growing!

Before boarding the buses for their field trip to Fuel, the kids were able to harvest an eggplant, some Shamrock Gold cherry tomatoes, basil, rosemary, marjoram, onion and garlic chives, and parsley. At Fuel, our veggies were handed over to the cooks, who washed, chopped and sliced them. Fuel then supplemented our harvest with peppers, onions, and more tomatoes. The kids split up into groups of 4, and each group made their own pizza. I was so proud that every group added all toppings to their pie- and even better- most left the toppings on when they ate their slices! Who knew eggplant and chives would be such hits! No food weenies in this group!

Thanks to Fuel for sponsoring this great outing, which allowed the kids to see their food go from garden to plate.

Next up for Food For Thought- Family Fun Day this Saturday (7/18) from 11-2 at Earth Fare South Park. Bring the kids to make bubble wands and paint flower pots while the grown ups shop (don't forget your reusable bags!) There will be lemonade, chalk drawings, and free movie passes! Don't forget to sign your kids up for the kids' cooking class on the 21st of July, and teachers- check out the seminar "Adding Gardening to the Classroom Curriculum" that will be taught by Don Bockleheide on the 29th at 6:30.
