Event Description

Know Your Farms conducts on-farm projects, giving you a chance to meet the farmers who grow or raise your food and help them out a little on the soil from which you are fed!

Our next work project is Saturday, November 21st from 2-5 pm at Birdbrain Ostrich Ranch in Sherill's Ford.

The projects last 3 hours on the farms with 1 hour allotted on either end for travel time. Participants are encouraged to carpool.

Past projects have included clearing limbs from fields and manning the bonfire; planting mushrooms; planting seedlings in the greenhouse; weeding; harvesting; taking down hoop houses; chasing pigs from one pasture to another; collecting and washing eggs; rewiring fences; shovelling manure; creating new garden space by layering organic matter along the length; harvesting and shelling pecans; and cleaning up at the farmers' market.

Feel free to bring friends along if you like. The more the merrier. However, due to liability issues and the nature of the work, only individuals that are 15 and older may participate. DO NOT SHOW UP WITH CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 15.

Thanks in advance for giving of your time and energy. Our farmers are really excited about getting some assistance, and are deeply appreciative.
