****GREAT PHOTO AND INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY****

WHAT: CMS Kids “Garden Planting Celebration” - Students will begin planting some summer vegetables in their new organic garden. Also, students will taste-test tomatoes, squash, carrots, and cucumbers.

WHEN: Thursday, April 30, 2009
2:00p.m.-3:00p.m.

WHERE: Rama Road Elementary School (garden is located near the playground)
1035 Rama Road
Charlotte, North Carolina 28211

WHO: K-5th grade Rama Road Elementary students from Day School and After School, teachers, and parents have partnered with Don Rosenberg from Instant Organic Garden, CharMeck Farm to School Program, and the Mecklenburg County Fruit & Vegetable Coalition to create this large schoolyard garden.

WHY: The Celebration will unveil the new raised bed gardens at Rama Road Elementary. The overall goal of the schoolyard garden is to help young people understand the role of growing fresh fruits and vegetables while teaching them patience and responsibility through gardening. The taste-test will help introduce children to vegetables they may not have tried before and prizes will be given to kids who taste all the foods.

This may be the first of many school gardens we will be building in the area. Please feel free to share this info with those who may be interested.
