Has all of this winter rain left the low spots in your yard looking like the Congaree Swamp? Well here at HAWK we say when mother nature hands you a bog, make a bog garden.
Join us as the popular Dr. Larry Mellichamp leads a fun and informative discussion of this unique way to garden.
Bog gardens are great for low lying, slow draining areas of our yards. Dr. M will talk about natural sites as well as offering hints for containers and formal beds. Bog gardens provide a showcase for many unique plants that only thrive in super moist conditions. We'll learn how to select the best native varieties to provide maximum beauty and benefits to wildlife.
Dr. Larry Mellichamp is a Professor of Botany at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and currently director of the UNCC Botanical Gardens. He travels and lectures worldwide; is the author of several books and in 2009 was the first recipient of the NC Native Plant Associations B.W. Wells Award in recognition of his educational efforts on behalf on native plants.
The meeting starts promptly at 7pm and is free and open to everyone. For more information
