The Charlotte Area Farm Tour takes place from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days and highlights 32 local farms. With the idea of choosing local food products becoming a priority for many families, the tour provides the opportunity to make those important farm-to-fork connections and discover sources for fresh, healthy food in the greater Charlotte community.
The 2011 tour features a diversity of local sustainable, organic, and family farms, including fruit and vegetable growers, livestock producers, mushroom producers, a vineyard, and even ostrich and alpaca farms! Many farms will be offering fun children’s activities such as hay rides, petting zoos, pony rides, pumpkin picking, a corn maze, and more! Farm fresh lunches and snacks will be available at many farms, and adults will enjoy live music and cooking demonstrations at several farm stops.
The Charlotte Area Farm Tour is self-guided, and farms are located in clusters all around the Charlotte region for easy touring. Fifteen farms will be open for touring on Saturday, September 17th, and an additional seventeen farms may be toured on Sunday the 18th. To take the tour, guests may download a map and purchase a ticket online at www.KnowYourFarms.com. Load up the vehicle with friends and family, pack a cooler in the trunk for farm-fresh goodies to take home, and then use the map to plot a course! Tickets and maps are also available at these area locations: The Milky Way (Charlotte) and both locations of The Common Market (Charlotte) as well as The Bradford Store (Huntersville), and three Ben & Jerry’s locations (Gastonia, Charlotte & Davidson). The tour cost is $25 in advance per vehicle or cycle group. Entrance tickets may also be purchased on tour days at every tour farm for $30.
