Week to Highlight Local Food and Farms in Hickory Area

Newton, NC – Eat, Drink, and Be Local, a week organized by NC Cooperative Extension to raise awareness of the bounty of local food that is grown and prepared in our area, is happening in Catawba County May 18th-24th. The week will be a celebration of our local farms, restaurants, and all the people involved in bringing food from the farm to our plates. The community can join in by enjoying a meal featuring local foods at one oEat, Drink, Be Localf the four participating restaurants, shopping at the farmers market and trying a new recipe at home, or attending one of the many events throughout the week.

Events will include a farm tour, gardening and cooking classes, farmers market kid’s events, a local beer and wine tasting, a film screening, and a local foods feast. You can find locally produced meats, cheeses, produce and more during Eat, Drink, and Be Local at the Downtown Hickory Farmers Market, the Conover Farmers Market, or the Claremont Tailgate Market.
