Resistance, Not all germs are created equal

Slow Food Charlotte Presents
“Resistance the Film
Not All Germs Are Created Equal”

This Monday SFC hosted a screening and panel discussion of a wonderful documentary by filmmaker Michael Graziano. Slow foodies and their friends gathered beforehand at the 7th Street Public Market to enjoy some local brews, pizza and conversation. From there everyone walked over to the beautiful UNCC-Charlotte City Center campus where we had a massive amount of popcorn and a multitude of delicious seasonings waiting for us.

Popcorn in hand, we dove right into the film. Almost three years in the making, this film is a beautifully constructed and informative piece of work. Through interviews with experts and personal stories of families affected by resistant infections, the audience learns the true nature of bacteria and our role as humans in its development. This is a must watch if you are concerned with the continued overuse of antibiotics in the medical field and within the food industry.

Afterwards, the audience posed many a smart question to the highly competent and diverse panel which consisted of the filmmaker himself, Graziano, Dr. Catherine Passaretti, an infectious disease specialist in Charlotte, Harriet Baucom, owner/farmer at Baucoms Best 100% Grassfed Beef and Renée Maas, Senior Southern Region Organizer at Food and Water Watch. Altogether, it was a great learning experience for all involved!
